Recent Flooding Confirms Importance of Scanning

There have been many recent incidents of flooding in the area that have affected important public records and personal documents.  Houses in Cuyahoga Falls and Stow completely caved in.  Cuyahoga Falls City Hall flooded.  Lorain Municipal Court flooded. And the list continues.  While the initial concern is for the safety of residents (and employees, as the case may be), secondary concerns focus on property damage.  There is the assessment of the structure itself and then the contents.  Inevitably, the focus turns to the important financial, legal, and personal documents contained in those structures.  And then there is the sinking feeling that comes with knowing that nothing can be to salvage water-logged paper.  (Okay, theoretically, the paper could be frozen and then very carefully separated by remediation experts, but by the time the water exposure has been discovered, it is far too late).

How can we prevent this scenario from playing out time and time again?  The solution is clear…  imaging all documents BEFORE disaster strikes.  For homeowners and small businesses, it is certainly possible to round up all paperwork and submit it to a document scanning service such as ScanWorks for processing.  For larger businesses, it is important to establish a protocol for making this happen.  The first step is making a list of all the business’s records.  Then prioritizing the importance of the records to the core operation of the business. Then establishing a schedule by which the records will be imaged, starting with those that are critical to the survival of the business should disaster strike.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how many of your households and businesses would sail right through a natural disaster?  If there’s even a question in your mind, it is time to pick up the phone and call ScanWorks for a free quote–  330-322-2988.  Or visit us online.
