EHR = Productivity?

At ScanWorks, we are closely monitoring reactions to EHR/EMR implementation by area medical practices.  If you are also following the news, reports describing the effect of EHR implementation on physicians’ productivity have been a rollercoaster– one week a study shows attitudes riding high, and the next week a survey indicates that attitudes have plunged.  So here we are again, taking another ride– the latest news from EHR vendor drchrono shows that about 75% of users have seen efficiency gains and the average user saves nearly 62 minutes per day thanks to their system.

What has become clear to us is that some user satisfaction is attributable to the fact that a proper EHR allows physicians and their staff to access a patient’s complete medical history, all with the click of their mouse.  This is done, of course, by having the practice’s medical charts scanned and then attached to the patient’s screen in the EHR.  Because the staff always have something more important to do to aid in the provision of medical services, ScanWorks exists to handle the scanning piece of this puzzle.
