The Price of Not Having an EHR

The Price of Not Having an EHR

If you think the cost of acquiring an Electronic Health Records system is expensive, consider this.  For doctors and other medical providers who cannot demonstrate “meaningful use” of an EHR by the 2015 deadline, Medicare reimbursements will be reduced by 1%.  This deduction rate only increases–  2% in 2016, 3% in 2017, 4% in 2018, and up to 95% depending on future adjustments to the rules.  These penalties make it clear that physicians can no longer put off the task of parting with their paper charts.

The good news is that physicians can receive up to $44,000 in Medicare incentive payments by implementing an EHR.  These funds are not considered reimbursement for monies spent on hardware, software, and the like.  Receipts documenting expenditures are not required, for example.  Rather, if you can demonstrate you acquired an EHR and you can demonstrate meaningful use of it, you are eligible for payment.

One use of incentive payments is transitioning the information in your paper charts into your EHR.   ScanWorks is equipped to scan your backlog of paper charts and import them into your EHR.  Having access to the information in your paper charts is extremely important in terms of making full use of your EHR and, more importantly, ensuring you have access to all information related to your patient’s care.  We are here to make this process easy for you.  Trust the experts at ScanWorks to handle your medical scanning so that  you may spend your time doing what you do best.
