Do We Use OCR Software?

We are often asked whether we are using OCR software in the process of scanning documents for customers. The short answer is no, and there is a very good reason for that. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. OCR software allows the user to extract text from an image and convert it into an editable text document. Said another way, after scanning a document using OCR software, you would now have a document on your screen that you could now modify for your own purposes. Because the mission of ScanWorks is to archive documents for customers, we do not utilize OCR software. Instead, we save scanned documents in pdf format. Think of it like we are taking snapshots of the original documents. If our customers need to access their scanned documents at some point in the future, they have assurance that they are looking at an exact copy of the document as it existed in paper form.
