ScanWorks was selected to start digitizing the photo collection belonging to the Akron Beacon Journal.  The Akron-Summit County Public Library will make the photos we scan available online through its Summit Memory Project starting in 2015.  We strongly believe in the value of preserving important records, particularly in a situation like this where the Beacon Journal photographs are an irreplaceable part of local history.  By scanning these photographs into digital format, we are not only preserving them, but we are also helping to make them accessible for public use.

It has been gratifying to work with the librarians at ASCPL who are also dedicated to records preservation.  They understand that materials in paper form do not hold up over time and that information is simply not accessible when it is stored in a file cabinet. Their commitment to making the Beacon Journal photographs available to the public is impressive.
